History
wiener kommunal-umweltschutzprojektgesellschaft mbh (WKU) was founded in 2002 to support the vienna city council in the execution of large-scale projects. as a WHOLLY OWNED SUbsidiary of the VIENNA MUNICIPAL DEPARTMENT 48 (mD 48), wku is assigned to the city of vienna's administrative group for the environment, which is also the most important client. the reason for wku's foundation was the construction of vienna's third waste incineration plant (WIP Pfaffenau) and the first (and Only) biogas facility (biogas vienna). WKu was engaged to oversee planning, construction and financing.
The core activities of WKU include:
- Design, engineering, construction and financing of facilities operated by the City of Vienna
- Planning services in the field of waste management: process engineering for waste incineration and waste treatment, biogas facilities, waste logistics, wastewater technology, thermal treatment of sewage sludge, construction planning and electrical engineering in plant construction
The waste incineration plant Pfaffenau went into operation in 2008, only a few years after the decision to build it. WKU has impressively demonstrated that it has the expertise to carry out highly complex large-scale projects in an efficient, timely and economical manner.
