Infrastructure requirements
TierQuarTier Wien has to meet a variety of stringent requirements, such as the use of durable, scratch-resistant materials and providing animals with a shelter where they feel comfortable. Therefore, the outdoor areas, kennels and cages have to be functional as well as species appropriate and spacious.
Stray or neglected animals are treated and cared for by veterinary physicians in state-of-the-art quarantine stations. Other infrastructure requirements include short distances for employees as well as visitor friendliness. In addition to a friendly and cosy atmosphere, simple and comprehensible guidance systems as well as diverse opportunities for human-animal encounters are essential.
The hygiene within the enclosure and kennel is ensured by odour-resistant building materials and a sophisticated ventilation and heating system. An exhaust air filtration system prevents odour nuisance for neighbourhood residents.
Animal welfare and environmental protection go hand in hand
When TierQuarTier Wien was built, not only animal welfare aspects but also the use of renewable energies was taken into consideration. Landfill gas from the nearby sanitary landfill at Rautenweg is used to generate electricity for 3,000 Viennese households. TierQuarTier Wien also derives clean energy in the form of a district heat from the landfill.
At TierQuarTier Wien, modern animal welfare and future-oriented environmental protection go hand in hand. The sophisticated ventilation and heating systems not only ensure that animals feel comfortable, they are also designed to be environmentally friendly.
